RED HOOK LOFT
Red Hook Loft
Brooklyn, NY
Built in 1900 on the waterfront of The Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, this corner loft boasts 10’ high ceilings and plenty of light from its array of windows. We were tasked with the unique challenge of completely renovating this 1,000 sq.ft. loft in a contemporary but delicate way as to not overshadow the existing, understated pre-war details.
The badly damaged, unsalvageable floor was replaced with wide plank, yet whitewashed flooring to provide a modern finish in a format of the period. We custom designed all millwork with traditional features like bubble glass and minimal moulding at a scale that accentuated the openness of the main dining/living space.
Custom, panel doors with inset fluted glass allow the bedroom to maintain privacy while further distributing light throughout the apartment. New wainscoting and milk glass accompany more modern but subdued materials like monochromatic tile and vibrant wall-coverings.
